THANK YOU TO JOHNSON AND JOHNSON

We got the opportunity to meet and get presents from Johnson and Johnson and the year 7's and 8's never knew that a surprise would come on that day. Everybody got presents, and everybody was happy. Once we got our presents we couldn't wait to open it, but when school finished we opened it, because we just couldn't wait.

Thank you to Johnson and Johnson for giving us presents that we could enjoy. Thank you for all the effort you put in to give presents to us, I know it's not easy to give a whole school presents, but at least we enjoyed it.

The present I got was art stuff, which is pretty cool, because I love art.

Thank you Johnson and Johnson.

NETBOOK REFLECTION

The first day I got my netbook, was the day I knew that school would be much easier. When we got our netbooks we had a lot of fun with it. Netbooks last for 3 years or more, it depends how long you could look after it.

When we got use to netbooks, we learnt how to do many, many things, on the internet. We learnt how to do good things and bad things, we learn things quickly from the internet, quite quickly. But the one thing we have to do everyday is to leave a good digital footprint, and be cyber smart, and never cyber bully.

The things we have to do for our netbooks are.........
- Take care of it
- Put it in the right place
- Look after it with TLC (Tender, Love and Care)
- Charge it everyday
- Put it somewhere safe

REFLCETION

I've learnt heaps from my teacher this year, my teacher has been teaching me how to get better at maths and get better at reading. My teacher this year gave me advice for next year so that I could get better at stuff I need to work on.

The significant thing I've learnt myself was art. I'm better at art then any other subject, my art teacher had gave me some advice to make me get better at my blending, and contrasting. The other significant thing I've learnt myself, was how to play guitar. At first I thought it was too hard to play guitar, but to be honest, it's actually easy.

The things I've learnt from my friends was how to get better at sharing. Sharing is the best thing to do for friends and family. Everything I've learnt from my friends were helpful. Everyone needs a friend, to help them, to care for them, and even to be by their side.

The thing I've learnt outside of school was, to be kind thoughtful and caring. I've been kind, thoughtful and caring to everyone outside of school lately, I've even helped my grandparent's with their stuff too.

I've done better at visual art, playing guitar, and listening to the teacher. All the thing I've done this year was great, I hope all the things I've learnt this year helps me for next year.

YEAR 8 CAMP HIGHLIGHTS

My first favourite highlight was the Luge Ride, it was so awesome. At the luge ride we had to wear helmets for safety, without our helmet's we'll all be in hospital so safety first. It was a wet and sunny day so we had got wet on our way down, and all of us loved it.

My second favourite highlight was getting to hear Richmond School sing, they were amazing. They preformed for us which was pretty nice, the're secret to singing better is to take a CD at home sing to it until you sound better. Every song they sang we're wonderful, and I hope they get better and better each year.

My third favourite highlight was going to the farm. The host was funny and the host was also picking on people. Some people from our camp went on stage and had a turn of milking the cow, and it was so funny. The farm has to be my funny moments.

NELSON MANDELA

Mandela was born on 18 July 1918 in the village of Mvezo in Umatu, then a part of South Africa's Cape Province. He was given a name called Rolihlahla that means ‘troublemaker,’ in later years he became known by his clan name, Madiba.

His patrilineal great-grandfather Ngubengcuka was ruler of the Thembu people in Transkeian Territories of South Africa’s modern Eastern Cape province. His children passed away, and one of his wives passed away as well. Nelson lived a pretty hard life.

He got married on 5 October 1944, after initially living with her relatives, they rented House no. 8115 in Orlando from early 1946. Years later he studied and went to university, but he got arrested after a few years later.

He got arrested by trying to get equality between the whites and blacks. He never gave up, he kept going and going and he never said ‘I QUIT’, which is a good thing. He stayed in jail for 27 years, and 1 year later he became president, because of the good things he did for his country.

He retired of being president, because he stayed in the hospital, until he had to R.I.P. July 18 to December 5, we will always remember Nelson for all the good things he’s done for his beloved country South Africa. The thing I like about Nelson Mandela is that he never gives up, that is something everyone should do more often.

SWIMMING

gif maker We got the opportunity to go to the pools in G.I. It was wet everywhere when we went inside the pools. Then we had to put our swimming togs and dive in the pool. Before we do anything in the pool we had to wait for the instructor.

The instructor thought us how to swim really good. We have competitions at the end of our sessions, and our team always comes 1st. Every time we finish swimming we always change into our uniform, and we walk back to school, feeling great, because we know how to swim.

COMPARING AND CONTRASTING LIFE IN MALAWI

In our literacy group we are comparing and contrasting our life to a person from another country. We have to compare our life to the life of Omar, a 12 year old girl from a country named Malawi.

Omar’s life at school is hard, because she has to wake up at 6:00 in the morning, and go to school. Before they start their lessons at 7:00 Omar and her classmates have to clean up the school.

Starting the day they sing the national anthem, gathered together in a whole school assembly, to start and finish their day well.

They have 2 breaks only during the day. The 1st one is at 8:40 and 2nd one at 10:40 and their breaks last for only 10 minutes. There are two  main sports that they play during school breaks , the girls play a game of netball and the boys love to play football.

A long time ago Omars parents died when she was a little girl that's why she and her siblings have to live with her grandparents. Omar has to cook for the family everyday, her chores also include fetching water from the well, tend the garden, pounding the cassava into flour and she has to help her grandfather too. He is a very important man in his family and also his village,  he’s the chief !

Life is hard in Malawi, schools don't have electricity and nearly all the kids can't afford textbooks. Some kids who are 16 sometimes stay on in the same class for years, because it  was too hard for them to pass school exams.

Girls have a very hard life in the village. Some girls are like mothers who stay at home and do everything for the little kids. Its hard for the girls to study  because there are a lot of things happening in their lives that they are expected to do.

In contrast to Omars school, our school in NZ has electricity and more money than Omars school. Her school doesn’t have any electricity plus, they don’t have much money. Our similarities are that we walk to school but, she walks 6 km to school, where as we only walk 5 minutes.

Another similarity is that at home we do chores too. Here at nz we do help or moms with chores but we don’t fetch water we get it from a tap or from the supermarkets.

At Omars school the girls favourite sport is only netball, but the girls at our school love to play rugby or Soccer even basketball or touch but mostly tag as well as netball. The boys at Omars country likes to play football, but the boys at our school love to play rugby.

There are more boys than girls at Omar’s school but, there’s an equal amount of girls and boys at our school (Pt England). The reason why there are fewer girls is that they are expected to stay home and help out the family. Girls in new zealand can’t stay at home otherwise their parents will go to jail or get fines. Girls and boys are treated equally in NZ.

NZ exams are different to their exams because their exams are at the end of the year, and if they don’t pass they have to get put down. In NZ if we don’t pass we have to do our test again but we still move up to the next class.

All though there are some similarities between our lives and theirs, we still a lot of different things in our lives.

RONALD AND OLIVER KISHIMEN THE WHISPERER

Ronald heard a whisper but no one was there, he looked back, but no one was there. He kept walking, but he couldn’t see properly because of the smoke, but then............... A man named Oliver Kishimen came and took him to a really scary house. Oliver Kishimen is a wanted man, the police have been looking everywhere for him but he was just too hard to find.
Oliver took carried Ronald into the Spooky living room and tied him up in a chair and Ronald was shouting out for his mother but all the windows and doors were shut. Oliver gave him the sleeping gas to put him to sleep, and then Oliver hide him inside the closet.

Ronalds mother was getting worried that he didn’t come home so then his mother went searching through every house, she searched and searched but there was no one, until she got to the last house she could possibly find in her neighbourhood. She heard a whisper and it was Oliver, she looked back but no one was there, but lucky she knew karate so she could fight to get her son back.

Ronald opened his eyes and saw his mother outside the window, he felt scared that Ronald might come back to put him to sleep. Lucky Ronalds mother called the police with her own phone. Ronalds mother kicked the door open and shouted out Ronalds name and he answered and shouted, “I’m in the spooky living room mother!”

They both heard a whisper and that was Oliver. Ronalds mother was hiding at the back of the couch and she saw Oliver holding a knife in his back pocket then she jumped up and kicked him right in the face and kicked him again, and he was out cold.

The police arrived on time and arrested Oliver, and took Ronald and his mother back home safely, the police told Ronald to never walk home alone ever again and Ronald said that he will only ever talk and walk with people he knows. A SPOOKY HALLOWEEN

Number 22 I looked at the letter and I said, “Yes, I found the house.” The outside of the house looked creepy, it looked rusty, it had cobwebs, and it also had spooky statues, and the plants looked dead I ran up to the doorstep and i rang the bell, it also had a creepy sound to the bell. I pushed the door and it was already opened.

I saw an old picture of an old man on the wall. I took one step back and the old man was standing right there and staring at me I sprinted out the door but the door was locked, I shouted, “Help, Help,” the man was near me I could feel it, until I went to the living room I saw people lying flat on their backs, I was freaking out.

He showed up right behind me and said, “Welcome child.” Everyone jumped up and shouted, “Surprise, happy Halloween,” I had a big smile on my face, and all this time I thought my sister got kidnapped, but actually she was helping out some people for the Halloween party. Best Halloween Ever.

FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL

My first day of school and I’m so excited. I woke up Brushed my teeth and ate breakfast, and I went in the car to go to school. Feeling so excited, I opened the car really quick went my mother stopped the car, I ran to school with a smile on my face. I saw all the big kids playing with their tennis balls, and the little kids playing duck, duck, goose. I arrived at school at 8:00.

As I was going into my classroom I saw the teacher looking so excited to teach us kids. All of the kids were laughing and talking to each other non-stop. I was the loudest in the class so then the teacher said, “Zion be quiet please.” We had a fun activity on the first day, we made popcorn watched a movie and we also played games.

The movie was finished and our popcorn was finished too. It was morning tea time so we just went to play because we were too full to go and eat. Our teacher said, “Go outside and play kids, have a good morning tea.” I was playing at the playground, the sun was shining, the flowers were blooming and the kids were having so much fun.

It was the end of school because it was half a day and the rest of the days are gonna be normal. It was half a day because it was parent interviews. “First day at school, AWESOME!!,” I said to myself.

MALALA NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

She got nominated for a nobel peace prize and she is still fighting for the girls in Pakistan. She also got shot in the head because people didn’t want her to win the nobel peace prize.

I think it’s not fair for girls to not go to school because Malala has been fighting for every girl in Pakistan. I’m also surprised that she survived and she still fighting for the girls in Pakistan. I think she’s a brave and strong girl.

SCRATCH ANIMATION

HALLOWEEN

Halloween or Hallowe'en, also known as All Hallows' Eve, is a yearly celebration observed in a number of countries on October 31, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows and the day

In 1950 they celebrated it by remembering people from the dead.
China, America, Germany, Japan, Philippines, Scotland, Ireland and Italy love Halloween and other countries love Halloween too.

In our days Halloween is celebrated by eating candy and scaring people with their scary costumes.

Many people celebrate Halloween in America, Germany and other countries. People changed the celebration for Halloween now, because everyone wants to celebrate by eating candy, they also party on Halloween now too.

IMMERSION ASSEMBLY

Wow who knew that immersion assembly could be awesome? I actually enjoyed watching the pancake eating competition, and I also enjoyed the team 4 video, it was awesome. Mr Somerville and Mr Marks were the best, and Mrs Lavakula must of embarrassed her son, he was watching his mother on the screen and he said, “What?”

The pancake eaters were the best Mrs Walters challenging a boy named Noah. Mrs Walters kept on holding up the challenge until.................... Mrs Tuala got angry and said, ”That is enough with the make up, we’re all hungry the baby is hungry, hurry up ready, set, GO.” They were eating like pigs, and it got more exciting when they gave the audience some pancakes, and the winner was Noah.

The immersion assembly was fun, I enjoyed all of the items, but the top 2 we’re the TEAM 4 and TEAM 3 item.

NELSON MANDELA

Nelson Mandela retired as President in 1999, and when he retired South Africa had problems, and the biggest problem was that people had to be sent away from their homes so they could become slaves for the whites. The whites torture the blacks by busting their houses killing and hanging them.

From 2004, he gave up politics, to enjoy a quiet life with his family. He was in prison for 27 years, and he got released in 1990 11 February. He had to be kept in prison until he dies, but someone released him. Nelson Mandela also got tortured too, and their are still racism going on in some cities in America these days.

MARTIN LUTHER KING

Marching down the Mall towards the Lincoln Memorial we felt united having a little support from our past enemies. We all held up signs saying that we want freedom and equal rights. “Hurry Zion”, I yelled as we raced to the front of the huge crowed.  I really wanted to see Martin Luther King, “WAIT”, Zion shouted.. Zion sprinted towards me and said “Do you think they won't treat us bad again?”, I whispered in his ear and said “I Think”.

Glancing at Martin Luther king, My family and I held hands as he got ready to say his speech. His Speech started with “I HAD A DREAM”, He was so confident and he had a Big smile on his face. hopefully he made the Whites realized their not the only people in this world. I  turned and looked at the crowd, people were crying and hugging each other, seeing them being emotional mad me cry. My Mum said  “If we're lucky enough we could all have freedom. and nobody got hurt.” that's when I  started to feel happy!

RAINBOW WORRIOR

In 1985 an awful event happened. Fernando pereira was in a ship called Rainbow
warrior as they celebrated the director of the anti-nuclear movements 29th birthday of the Greenpeace. while they were celebrating two french spies wearing scuba gear dived secretly under the rainbow warrior and attached two olympic bombs onto the ship. The two bombs exploded just before midnight leaving Fernando pereira dead inside the wrecked ship.

Two French spies were arrested but three others escaped in a yacht. Dominique Prieur and Alain Mafart was found guilty of manslaughter and were sentenced to 10 years in prison because of the bombing. They were sent to a small island in the Pacific but in two years, they returned to their countrie. Later the French President told them that he had been involved in the bombing to the rainbow warrior. The French government wanted to stop Greenpeace from protesting their nuclear testing in the Pacific. After That the French government had paid $13million to New Zealand.

The negative impact of the nuclear weapon could affect a lot of people like Death, Radiation, Poisoning, health Problems, Cancer, Birth Definity. Thats why we shouldn't have any nuclear weapons in our world so nobody could get hurt we could have Nuclear Free Zone.

CROSS COUNTRY FUN RUN

Once I walked onto the slippery squishy mud I almost slipped. When Mr Burt came to start the year 8 girls cross country, I had butterflies in my stomach. When Mr Burt held up the syrian that's when I knew it was going to blow. When it was time, he hit the button to blow it and it blew.

The race started, I jogged when we got up to the corner and that was the path that was muddy. I almost slipped when we got up to where the reserve was, Brooklyn threw mud at me when we got past the teachers, but then Mary pushed Brooklyn into the mud and she was muddy from waist up.

Our second lap was even worse I got muddier and School was almost finished, because we started at 2:20 and it was fun and hard, so then me Brooklyn and Ashleigh finished the race together and cross country was over after a few people finished.

That CROSS COUNTRY was way better than the other ones we had.

REFLECTION

The movie that we created is more about detention then love.

Turuhira, Kimberly, Dante, Zion and I created a movie that was about Best friends, we chose a song called Oath by Cher Lloyd. Its one of the best songs about friendship we all decided that it will be fun having a fun and funky music that's has no swearing or other bad lyrics in it.

We decided to take fast shots so each clip won’t be boring, We also use Mr Liufau to be a teacher because he is good at acting and funny to watch. Our movie was not about love, but we needed to add more detail to our clips like lip singing and making the video more clear so everyone can see what actually happened.

PROSPECTIVE STUDENT

Determined to strive Zion climbed the mountain with courage as he knew he would reach the dojo. Feeling worried and shy he knocked proudly on the door.

Curiously Zion stood at the door looking apprehensive. Suddenly sensei Porsha opened the door and pointed away. As he  slammed the door right into Zion’s face, Zion thought to himself anxiously  “I will never make it in the dojo”!

Zion felt sad, but then he meditated so he could see if sensei Porsha wouldn’t reject him. Zion meditated the whole day until sensei opened the door. Porsha opened the door the next day and pointed away again. Zion gave up and walked away feeling down and then got angry and ran to the dojo and kicked the door and it broke. Again Porsha pointed away, Zion noticed sensei was pointing directly at sign” USE THE SIDE ENTRANCE,” Zion was happy.

THE WITCH AND THE 2 ASSASSIN SPIES

Once upon a time an evil witch stole her twin’s identity, because she was jealous of her sister. Her sister had won the love of the only man the evil witch had ever loved. Enraged the evil witch trapped her twin into an underground ruin, no one but the evil witch could ever get in.

Her evil twin sister looks like her but the problem is that she has a mole, she wanted her twin sister’s fiance. So then the evil witch went to her sister’s fiance and the fiance said, “Will you marry me?” The evil twin said, “Well, Yes of course.”

Hansel and Gretel walked in and Hansel looked at her face and thought to himself, “Mum doesn’t have a mole.”Hansel and Gretel went to their room and found a note that told them to lean on the wall so the secret layer could open.

They did exactly what the note said, and they bumped into an old man wearing an assassin suit. “Who are you” Gretel asked, “My name is John Kanichi and I'm the one who put the note there for you.” “Why are you down here all by yourself,” “I am your protector, come,” said John.

“Go into the girls closet Hansel and come back out, and Gretel  told the same to Hansel but he had to go into the boy’s closet and come out, they both ended up wearing assassin clothes with weapons inside their clothes. They both had a small axe, stone dagger, sword, bow and arrows, pistol and sludge hammer, and they both wore blue assassin clothes, and they both had I.D’s.

Hansel and Gretel asked the old man if he knew about what happened to their mother. Hansel and Gretel had to stop her from trying to marry. A few days later the evil twin was so excited to get married at 6:00pm. Hansel and Gretel got their assassin spy gear and got ready.

Their wedding started, but Hansel and Gretel said they needed to go get a present for them but they actually wanted to get their mother out of the cage. 35 minutes later they got their mum and brought her back and to the to the wedding and stopped it. They said that she was their real mother. They fought for a long time then Hansel called the assassin spies to take her to prison. Everyone was happy that time and they all lived happily ever after.

CUBOID

The length of my cuboid is 19 cm cubed, the height of my cuboid is 5 cm cubed and the width of my cuboid is 2 cm cubed. The area of my net is 19 cm squared and the width of my net is 2 cm squared.

Our group had to use cuboid's that we have in the classroom and the images and create your own cuboid, from a net. using cardboard.
We also had to take a photo of the 2D net, witch I forgot to do, then we had to build a cuboid and take a photo of the finished product.
we had to calculate the area of the 2D net and the volume of the 3D cuboid.

THE BIG FAT BURGER

“Bye mum, I'm off to The Heart Killer for lunch,” shouted Matt. As fast as he could, Matt set off. He hasn't eaten breakfast or lunch as he had been as busy as a bee.
Arriving at The Heart Killer, Matt ordered The Heart Attack Burger. The burger was good to go. Matt stared at the burger and yelled, “Oh my gosh, that burger is huge.”

The Heart Attack Burger is the only one that has a fat patty stuffed with 3 little burgers, and the outside 2 more patties and a bun on the bottom and one on top with cheese in the middle melting on the side. Matt started eating the burger. As he ate it ,he got up to the point where he was going to vomit, and he was only half way. He ran into the men's toilets and threw up.

Matt went back and continued eating the burger, because if he didn’t finish it he would not be allowed to ever go back to that restaurant. He was hiding the burger inside a huge black bag and ran outside and dumped it in the trash. He will never ever go back to that restaurant again.

ICE-CREAM

CAN ROOM 15 MAKE ICE-CREAM WITH 3.3% OF FAT MILK?

Ingredients

- 3.3% Milk
- Vanilla Essence
- (White) Sugar
- Crushed Ice- Salt

Equipment

- 1 Small Zip-loc Bag
- 1 Large Sized Zip
- A towel or Gloves
- Measuring Cups
- Measuring Spoons

Method

1. We got our big plastic bag and put a couple of of small ice cubes into our plastic bag, Placed our plastic bag down somewhere safe well we went and got our small plastic bag.

2. Next we took it over to the table and put milk, vanilla and sugar into our little zip-loc bag. Then we had to make sure that the small plastic bag was sealed tightly.

3. Next we had to put our little bag into our big bag, but we had to make sure the big bag was also sealed tightly.

4. We had to take our towel and wrap it around our big bag and shake it for about 30 or 15 minutes and we're finished. We take out our small bag and we get our spoon and eat it.

Outcome

It came out like ice-cream but tasted sort of like calcium, but mostly ice-cream.
Research

You add salt to ice to lower the temperature of the ice/water mixture, because without the salt, the temperature would not fall below 32F, which is not cold enough to make ice cream.

T.H.A.G (THE HEART ATTACK GRILL)

I think that The Heart Attack should not be allowed to operate in G.I NZ.

They shouldn't be allowed to operate at G.I.

The fries a deep fried with animal fat, and known to be fatter and less healthier than vegetable fat. The Heart Attack Grill offers burger that are 4 patties high that are filled with cheese and grease, they call their burgers the The Bypass.

The owner of The Heart Attack Grill uses his customers for promotion. Super morbidly obese people eat for free at The Heart Attack Grill.

The spokesperson for The Heart Attack Grill, passed away from obesity related illness and within a week they hired a new spokesperson, that came back from the hospital.

The owner of the restaurant is promoting obesity through his food and lifestyle. The Heart Attack Grill offers unlimited fries, fat and sugar laden drinks as well as giant sized burgers.

The people who eat at The Heart Attack Grill never listen, the owner just said that if they eat there, they will die for sure.

When you weigh up all the evidence, you can conclude that the owner of T.H.A.G should be held accountable and that the restaurant shouldn't be allowed to operate in America or in other countries ever again, and...

....... WHY DO YOU THINK IT'S CALLED THE HEART ATTACK GRILL HMM?

I think it's called The Heart Attack Grill because, he knows that you will get a heart attack and, he knows that you will need heart surgery.

WILL.I.AM THAT POWER

The song that’s sung by Will.I.Am Ft J.B That Power means that you have to work to be the best. It also means you can work harder to be the best, and also to be number 1. It means that you can go higher and higher in your life, and it doesn't matter what other people say you can make it to the top.

I will try and achieve my dream.

Will.I.Am also gave Pt England School a One Hundred Thousand dollar check. It was also hard to preform in front of him, he's a famous guy so it was pretty hard.

It really felt good that he to came. He also shared his life with us and it felt great.

MY GROUP'S STORY

Once upon a time Katie skipped around her house all day long. Everyday she stopped and purposely punched her brother. But one day her brother walked up to Katie and said, “Why did you do that,” Katie never answered and skipped along. Because of that her brother got angry and went to tell his parents. Her brother was curious about Katie. That’s why his sister got into trouble because she wasn't aloud to do that to her brother, so she got sent into her room. Until finally she was in her room staring out the window looking at people walking past, she hated it.

The moral of the story is to not do something for no reason.

THE KEY

Annaliz grabbed her bike and her helmet, and she was riding as fast as she could. She was riding on the frosty grass as soon as she got to the park, and she found a big, shiny, gold key. Annaliz picks it up and she heard someone yelling, it was an old man. The old man nervously said, “Have you seen my big shiny, gold key around here,” “Here you go, I found it,” Annaliz replied. The old man threw the key in the air and money came down to our arms. Annaliz went back home feeling, so, so happy.
